Milkweed Giveaway
Support the Monarchs!
Free Plants!
We will be giving away a limited number of free 2" pots of various Milkweed species to attendees during the Native Plant Expo & Marketplace on June 1st, along with many resources and educational materials on milkweed planting and protecting the endangered Monarch Butterfly. First come, first served!
The Washtenaw County Conservation District is happy to announce the return of the Spring Milkweed Giveaway thanks to a repeated significant donation from two individuals with a long history in conservation and concern for diminishing native ecosystems and species, in particular the Migratory Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus), an icon charismatic indicator species that recently received the globally ENDANGERED status. With the donated funds, we are offering free native milkweed (Asclepias spp.) plants, which the Monarch depends on as a larval host plant.
More available from the Spring Native Plant Sale
Additionally, Available for pre-order from the Spring Native Plant Sale is a "Monarch Waystation" Garden kit, a flat of 38 plugs with a mix of different species (10 or more) geared towards attracting Monarch butterflies specifically. During the Expo, Designs By Nature will be selling these kits, limited supplies available.
