Agricultural Plastics Recycling

Agricultural Plastics Recycling

e

Through the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP), the WCCD held its first agricultural plastics recycling collection event on April 13, 2026. The goal of this project was to explore and develop a long-term, local recycling solution for commonly used agricultural plastics such as greenhouse film, drip tape, and silage wrap.

Image detailing the WCCD recycled 1,549 lbs. of plastic. 517 of that being pots and trays, 1032 lbs of that silage tarp and bale cover.

Why did we develop this recycling event?

Plastic materials are essential to agricultural operations but local disposal and recycling options in our region remain limited. As a result, agricultural plastics often accumulate on farms until producers are able to rent a dumpster or, in some cases, resort to burning the material. Through this initiative, we aimed to create a system where farmers could conveniently drop off agricultural plastics to be recycled and returned to reliable manufacturing streams.

When's the next local ag plastics recycling event?

At this time, we are exploring ways in which we can organize a second collection event. In the meantime, we encourage you to take our survey regarding agricultural plastics. The survey results will allow us to better understand the need for plastic recycling in our area and how we can make the event feasible for producers.
