Senior Farmer Programs Technician-Katy Beaven

Katy works to connect farmers and landowners in Washtenaw County with conservation programs and incentives that enhance environmental stewardship on private lands. She holds a B.S. in Soil Science and an M.S. in Forestry from the University of Missouri–Columbia and brings over 12 years of professional experience and a natural affinity for the outdoors.

In 2020, Katy relocated to Southeast Michigan to join the NRCS, where she supported landowners and agricultural producers in conservation. In addition to her work in land management, she has a background in ecological research that spans the fields of forest ecology, soil health, and plant-microbial interactions. She has also served major disaster remediation efforts following the Paradise and Los Angeles wildfires.

Outside of work, Katy enjoys time sewing, playing guitar, gardening and exploring the landscape of Michigan through trail running and cycling.
