WASHINGTON, D.C. —The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is proud to announce that Matt DeJonge has been awarded the Certified Forester (CF) certification. This prestigious certification recognizes Matt's exceptional knowledge and expertise in forestry. The CF program was first developed in 1994, with the creation of a competency based examination in 2003. The CF certification program is long recognized as the gold standard in forestry and is awarded to individuals who meet rigorous standards of experience, education, and professional ethics. It signifies a high level of competency and commitment to the field of forestry, ensuring that certified professionals are well-equipped as a leader who manages and cares for our forests.
About Matt DeJonge:
Matt DeJonge is currently serving as the Community Forester at WCCD. With a background in commercial timber sale prep, reforestation, and sustainable agriculture Matt is excited to bring his experience to the residents of Washtenaw County.
By earning the Certified Forester designation Matt has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing forestry practices for Michigan.

About the Certification:
The CF certification program is designed to elevate the standards of practice in forestry and was developed with the assistance of professional foresters. It promotes the development and dissemination of knowledge and skills necessary for the effective management of forests, which
are vital for enhancing the quality of life for everyone. Having earned the CF in 2025, Matt, is required to maintain the standards of professional practice and provide evidence of Certified Forestry Education (CFE) hours in order to recertify every three years.
These CFEs help provide evidence that CFs acquire the most updated knowledge and skills in forestry.
