Join the Washtenaw County Conservation District, LongSnouts, JLW CISMA, and Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission for a workshop dedicated to combating the invasive Spotted Lanternfly. We will discuss identification, ecology, and management of this destructive pest and its preferred host, the Tree of Heaven. The Spotted Lanternfly poses critical risks to Michigan’s agricultural resources and vineyards. After a brownbag lunch the group will hike out to Park Lyndon for a live demonstration featuring specially trained detection dogs showing how they sniff out these pests in the wild. Finally, the WCPARC stewardship crew and WCCD will showcase Tree of Heaven removal methods - including girdling techniques and a demonstration of specialized tools available from the WCCD tool lending library.
